Leandro Esteban Sanchez Rosalino

Baby Leandro Esteban born by C-section in the evening of January 12, 2018 developed symptoms within the first 24 hours.  Tests showed he had a congenital heart defect called coarctation of the aorta. Normally oxygenated blood flows from the aorta (the main artery coming out of the left side of the heart) to the rest of the body . In Leandro's case the vessel was too narrow for the blood to pass.  Special medication kept open a vessel used before he was born so that the blood could continue to bypass the blockage as it did in the womb, until corrective surgery could be performed.  As a result, his kidneys started functioning which is a good sign. 10 days after he was born he was flown up to Mexico City where he had surgery the following day, Tuesday, January 21. He continues to need viligant medical care and medication in order to keep his heart functioning well and for the process of healing to take place. At this time we don't know if there are any other complications. Funds will be given to help his parents, Nicolas and Angela to provide for his medical needs and If there is enough we will use some toward their housing expenses which we are paying for. They must stay close to the hospital providing the things the doctors ask for, medicines, bandages and the like. We have rented a small apartment for them in Mexico City where they just come to bathe and maybe rest a little. This story is still unfolding. The true financial needs will not be know until any other complications might be discovered.
