Hi! It’s Ala and Tom here!

We have really exciting news to share with you!

We’ve been trying to conceive a baby for more than 3 years now, since we got married.

Since it wasn’t happening for us, we decided to get some answers.

Over the past year, we have been seeing a fertility specialist in Ottawa. After many tests and ultrasounds, our doctor noticed that there is something funny with my fallopian tubes.

So on November 28th, 2016, I had a surgery called a diagnostic laparoscopy where I was put under full anesthesia, and my doctor made 2 incisions - one on the side of my belly and one in my belly button - and went into my body with a tiny camera to check out my tubes.

Two and a half weeks later, on December 14th, we finally got some answers. It turns out that my fallopian tubes are no good! They are both completely blocked, dilated and full of fluid. This is a condition called hydrosalpinges. We also found out that I have a reduced ovarian reserve which means I have fewer eggs left than the average lady at my age. Once my eggs are gone, they are gone!

The GOOD NEWS is that on January 9th, 2017 I will be going for another surgery, this time to remove both of my tubes completely.

As a result, I will never have the opportunity to conceive a baby naturally - EVER.

But, on the positive side (and those who know me, know that I always find a positive side to everything) removing my tubes will increase our chances to conceive a baby through In Vitro Fertilization (IVF).

This is really exciting news because it means that we can still have a baby and there is HOPE!

We will be able to start IVF as soon as I heal from my surgery of removing my tubes - so realistically, as soon as February 2017! Woo Hoo!!

Unfortunately, the cost of our IVF treatment is NOT covered by healthcare, and we can’t even take advantage of the Quebec tax credits because of the eligibility requirements they have put in place. Time is also of the essence since now we know that my egg reserves are low.

So now we are reaching out to our family and friends, and anyone else who is inspired to help and support.

We have decided to create a Go Fund Me page so that you can follow our journey. We're going to be post update videos as we go through this crazy and difficult, yet exciting journey towards making a baby!

We recently launched http://LifeLoveIVF.com to share our journey to making a baby, with the hopes of inspiring other couples and spreading awareness about IVF and infertility.

Thank you for all your support!

We love you!

Our Love Story….

I’d like to share a little about us as a couple, and how we came to be husband and wife!

Our story starts at the beginning of 2008, in Surfer’s Paradise, Australia. We were both backpackers and met on a special night out and danced the night away. We ended up working and living at the same hostel and our love story began. At the end of our working holiday visa’s, we had to return home - for Tom it was Rotherham England, for me it was Ottawa, Canada.

For 10 months we developed an even stronger bond through a long distance relationship, until finally I decided to move to England to be with Tom in July 2009.

We made a home together in England for 2 years before deciding to make the move over to Canada. For years we went through the immigration process with Tom and he is now finally a proud permanent resident of Canada!

In June 2012 we were on a trip to see Tom’s family in England, on the way back to Canada, we stopped in beautiful Iceland where Tom popped the question! I said, “Yes!”

We were married the next year!

We now have 2 awesome doggies, Ruby and Stella, and can’t wait to grow our family with a little baby Fulwood.

The money that we raise through our Go Fund Me page will be used for IVF and the medications that go along with the treatment!

To give you an idea, the medications I will be taking are in the form of daily injections that cost $5,000 - $6,000. Then once we are ready for the actual IVF cycle, this could cost between $7,000 - $9,000.

The total cost for a baby is between $13,000 to $15,000 per IVF cycle. Hopefully we will be successful with the 1st cycle! *fingers crossed*

If you are able to donate - any amount counts - you will be part of creating a new human being! A little Tom & Ala mix! He/she will have been created with the help of your kindness! That’s very special!
