Baby Kensleys fight with HLHS

Here in the south, when you have a friend in need you just about pour your entire life out to help them through their tough times! We have some really great friends, Andrew and Melissa Byrd, that are in need of some help and we are organizing a dinner benefit to help them out! Andrew and Melissa are currently pregnant with their sweet baby girl, Kensley Hope. Kensley has a heart condition known as Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS). HLHS is described as a condition where the left side of the heart responsible for pumping oxygen-rich blood throughout her body is underdeveloped. This condition can be treated, however, it can only be treated through multiple, costly surgeries after birth.

Kensley is due in January and will be born in Charlotte, NC. She will undergo her first heart surgery just a few days after birth. The Byrd Family will have numerous expenses, including travel, food, lodging and medical expenses not covered by insurance. Melissa will have to take leave from her job to care for Kensley during her procedures and as she recovers. Due to the complexity of Kensley’s heart defect, Andrew and Melissa have already incurred numerous medical bills just from seeing prenatal specialists.
