Aloha family and friends,
We’re so excited to announce our baby girls arrival. Blue Ke’alohilani is expected to arrive in September 2022, she’s truly our miracle baby. As happy as we are to welcome her into this world we know the journey ahead will be challenging.
Unfortunately, she has been diagnosed with a congenital heart defect called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, which is when the left ventricle and aorta is critically underdeveloped. After months of careful monitoring, the Pediatric Cardiologist at the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children have scheduled me to deliver at the Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women & Newborns Children’s Hospital in San Diego. Baby will then be transferred over to Rady’s Children’s Hospital for her operation.
Our family will be leaving Hawai’i at the end of August just in case she decides to come early. Once Blue is born she’ll need a shunt placed in her heart to help the blood flow properly, and another surgery when she’s 3-4 months old. Eventually, she’ll undergo several open heart surgeries throughout her life and will need a heart transplant.

This has been such a difficult time for our family since we’re forced to travel out of state for medical care, which can be very stressful and expensive, but we trust that baby Blue will receive the best care there. Both Nick and I will be away from work, on maternity and family leave. Our children will be joining us as well, so that they can give their baby sister and I the much needed love and support.
After a month Nick and our kids will have to return to work and school. In the meantime Blue and I must remain on the mainland close to the hospital until she’s clear to travel, which can be up to 3-4 months. Your donations will help with whatever medical expenses my insurance doesn’t cover, as well as help relieve us of some of the monthly bills while we’re tending to baby’s heath.
