Katherine, Mike and Baby A. Fund

Last weekend my daughter Katherine and her husband Mike, welcomed their first child to their family. My first grandbaby!! This beautiful baby boy was diagnosed with HIE- Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy (oxygen deprivation) at birth and immediately placed in the NICU.  They were told initially that his stay would be about 7-10 days.  That stay has been amended to 4-6 weeks, possibly 3-4 if he does amazingly well. She hasn't even been able to hold her little man yet.  Katherine works in childcare and is a part time respite provider and Mike, her husband, works for a home improvement store. When both are working, they manage financially but don't have any leftover extra income.  Katherine expected to take a few weeks of maternity leave, and then go back to work.  This extended hospital stay pushes back the time she can start earning a paycheck again.  Mike decided to save his few days of vacation until baby comes home, sacrificing his time with his new son thinking the NICU stay was for a relatively short time.  They don't know the lasting consequences HIE will have on their son's development. I started this to raise money so that they can pay their bills and not worry about work until their son comes home and they know more about what challenges he may face.
