Support for Baby Thomas and his battle with Cancer

I am writing this with a heavy heart to ask for your help to support my sister and brother in law, as they go through every parent’s worst nightmare, being faced with heartbreaking news that their 4 week old beautiful baby boy Thomas, has a rare type of Rhabdomyosarcoma Cancer. 

Backstory

This gorgeous little boy was born on 28 January 2021 at Dubbo Hospital in NSW.  At only a day old he was flown to Westmead Hospital in Sydney, were he underwent multiple MRI's, CT and Biopsy's. He was then heartbreakingly diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma. The tumor is in his arm, shoulder & underneath his armpit. 

Stacey and Michael had to make a life changing decision as to where Thomas was going to receive treatment as he needs to be in close proximity of a major hospital due to his young age and the high risk of infection - which is time critical.

Given they live in rural NSW,  it wasn't an option for Stacey and Thomas to return home to Hermidale. The only alternative was to travel to Perth, Western Australia where Stacey's family resides, in turn enabling them to get support during Thomas's treatment. 

Michael said goodbye to his wife and son and returned home to Hermidale to take care of their 3 year old daughter Charlotte and to manage their business  "The Hermidale Hotel”. 

Since Thomas's birth, their local community, stepped up without hesitation and held the fought whilst they where in hospital in Sydney. Both Stacey, Michael and their families will forever be grateful. The community's support can only be described as incredible. 

Now this beautiful family is broken into two, each parent with one child at opposites sides of the country, dealing with this gut wrenching diagnosis and on top, the possibility of having to give up their business. 

Thomas requires a tailored therapeutic approach and will commence Chemotherapy on 5 March 2021. The family have a long road ahead of them; being in and out of hospital for the foreseeable future, he will undertake 42 rounds of chemotherapy, followed by a 26 week maintenance period and life long surveillance to ensure the cancer doesn’t return. 

They have had their lives turned upside down in a matter of days and we would like to help ease the burden of any financial impact they are going to have, so that they can keep the focus where it matters most - their little boy Thomas.   

Stacey and Michael are not ones to ask for help, and are usually the ones offering rather than taking,  so I am asking as a sister, as a mother and as an Aunty for any support you can offer,  including sharing this page.

Any funds raised will be used to cover flights for both Michael and Charlotte to travel to WA on a regular basis to see Stacey and Thomas, normal living expenses as well as any medical expenses that may arise for Thomas during his journey to recovery.
