Baby Layla's Medical Fund

Dear grownups,

My name is Layla Joon, and I'd like to tell you a bit about myself.

My mommy gave birth to me on October 27th, 2017. I came into the world with dimples on my cheeks and really long piano fingers! I was very happy and content from the second I was born.

But, even though I looked happy, something was very wrong. I began to spit up green goo shortly after birth and was rushed to the NICU where I had my itty bitty tummy pumped, and was later transferred to Swedish hospital to find out why I was throwing up green stuff.

When I got to Swedish Hospital, several invasive tests were done on me. It was so scary and painful but I wanted to be strong for my mama, so I hardly even cried!!! Eventually, we were sent home with an incorrect diagnosis.

Days later, I started projectile vomiting and couldn't stop- so my mama rushed me back to the hospital.

After weeks of more invasive testing and living at Swedish hospital, I was diagnosed with Hirschsprung's disease. I needed surgery to remove the portion of my colon that wasn't working.

During surgery, my nice surgeon noticed something concerning. My stool had been so blocked up that it had leaked from my colon, causing the organs in my pelvis to fuse together with scar tissue. Because of this, my surgery could not be 100% completed.

Luckily, my surgeon was quick on his feet. He removed the "bad" part of my colon and instead of reconnecting the organ through my pelvis to my bottom, he gave me a stoma. It allows me to empty stool into an ostomy bag connected to my tummy. I feel so much better now!

I am now a very happy AND healthy baby!

In a few months when I am bigger, the organs in my pelvis should be healed enough for my surgery to be completed. Once that happens, I'll be able to pass stool without the help of an ostomy bag.

Thankfully for insurance, a huge portion of my care has been covered. We feel very grateful for that. I hope that you will consider donating to my medical fund for some of the costs that weren't 100% covered ❤️
