Don protégé
Meet the newest kitty on the block, lil Blakely. Found running solo on the first day of fall, looking up at us with pity and needing extra care. It was impossible to leave him behind and so, 5 1/2 hours we drove from Blakely, GA back to the city to begin her journey to good health. Sweet Blakely has had a rough start at life. But thanks to the generosity of the Virginia Highlands and the surrounding community, he'll be looking better in no time. And that's saying something for this little guy as he only has one working eye. A bad infection has rendered his right eye useless and needing emergency medical attention to remove. It'll cost a pretty penny to get him in good health so i'm putting a call to action out for our newest neighbor in need. I would love some help in saving this sweet guy. The eye surgery, with all of its expenses (meds., post ops, etc. ) has been quoted at around $1400 and unfortunately, i'm not able to afford the hefty bill on my own. If the details of this story don't tug at your heartstrings hopefully the photos of this fluffy fighter will.

The story: A business trip took me down to Blakely, South Georgia, and an evening walk with friends led us to a very faint meowing in a bush near his house. Just an itty bitty ball of fur curled up in a bush looking pretty cold and undernourished. A closer look revealed the poor condition of his eye - looking quite rough, completely out of the socket, and we assumed, causing pain. It took a while for him to let us near but when we'd go to walk away he'd quickly follow, keeping his distance but showing us he didn't want to be left alone. Later that night, he joined us for conversation on the porch as he slowly crept closer, eventually sitting under my chair right behind my shoes... still not letting me touch him but certainly making clear he wanted affection. I told myself if he was still there in the AM, i'd try and help him. An early cup of coffee to catch the sunrise brought me out to check on our new little friend and as soon as I walked out, he started meowing at me as if he'd waited all night for my return. I fed him some cream and he finally trusted me enough to let me pet him and eventually pick him up. So, into a warm blanket and a box in the front seat of my truck she went, off to Atlanta where our first stop was to Saint Francis in Decatur (thanks to the suggestions of some awesome neighbors) after hours to make sure the infection wasn't taking over or her eye was going to rupture.

Doc said he definitely needs it removed and to not wait much past 24 hours to avoid further complications. He's scheduled for his surgery tomorrow at 9am with routine vaccinnes, de-worming, flea removal and a much needed bath to follow. The cost of everything needed just to get her in good shape is quickly adding up but we're determined to give her what she needs. This little guy has already won over the hearts of many and with having come so far on her own already, we're blessed to be a part of her journey.
Thank you, THANK YOU so much for reading and getting to know little Blakely. Any support you can offer for us to get this sweet guy living his best life would be so appreciated. He may be small (1.5 lbs) but he is clearly a fighter.
