Baby Hersman Cord Blood Banking

Jessi and Darrell are having baby number 2!! They are excited to see their little girl in person sometime around October 19th.  In the meantime they have made another important decision. Given the family's extensive medical history, they have decided to bank this baby's cord blood. The cord blood will be safely stored in a medical facility. This way their whole family will have the peace of mind to know that should any of them ever experience significant medical issues, they will have a matching blood or tissue donor without having to wait for testing. 

Cord blood can be used to treat multiple diseases including cancers, blood disorders, immune deficiences and autism. The blood will be taken out of the umbilical cord after birth, and sent to a storage facility. It will be accessible to the family whenever it is needed.

It would be extremely calming to have this security blanket, however there is a significant cost attached to the cord blood process. The initial cord blood and tissue collection costs $2750. After this, there will be a yearly fee for storage, amounting in $300 per year, which Brea's grandparents will be covering. In addition to these costs, Jessi is experiencing a high risk pregnancy and is on bed rest much of the time. Therefore, she is currently unable to work, making it extremely difficult for Jessi and Darrell to cover medical and home bills. Overall, we are looking to collect $5000 to help cover all of these costs.
