Baby for Jill & Alex

Dear friends and family, 

Jill & Alex have struggled for years on whether to share this deeply personal and intimate issue with their friends and family, because it is not in either of their natures to burden others with a request for any help, especially financial help. With that said, they want to share a little of their story to provide some context for the help we are requesting for them, from those whom they know and love: 
              "As many of you know, we met online & it was an instant connection. Getting engaged a little more than a year later. Then about a year later getting married. Unfortunately the way things are today we didn't meet until our 30's. That being said and with all of Alex's traveling for work, gone the first 8mo of our marriage and upwards of 10mo per year since. Trying for a baby was difficult. We did try naturally for 2yrs thinking maybe we were just missing the timing. Then we did 2 IUI's (intrauterine insemination) thinking just a little more help is needed. After more invasive tests were performed and many doctors saying my uterus was perfect, we finally found out, my, Jill's tubes are blocked. "

With Alex & Jill's deep need to complete their family they continued to pursue ways to complete their family, US adoption would cost approximately $70,000. Foster Parenting seemed to be a good choice & could adopt cheaper that way; they found out their bedroom space is not adequate, and  to make it so, they'd need to complete renovations that were at minimum $90,000. Not having $90k they continued to do medical interventions upwards of 5 rounds of IVF. They not once asked for money. They didn't even tell most people, as to not want to burden them. The few that did know, they just simply asked for prayers.

Jill told, me some have said, "but you have a son, can't you just be happy with the one?" I personally say, "why shouldn't you be able to grow your family if you have the means and the love?" Alex is from a large and ever growing family, yet has no biological children. Their son, Alex (Jill's son from a previous relationship) has been asking for a baby sister since he was 3; years before Jill & Alex met. He's now 16 and still asks. They finally had to explain that they need IVF and what all that includes. 

Alex and Jill and their son Alex spend every Sunday morning in the Nursery, usually in the Newborn nursery, other times with the 2 or 3 year olds. They are called 'the baby whisperers' because either one or the other can calm any screaming child. Sometimes they stay for 2 services per day if the church is short handed. 

Jill and Alex regularly go to Mexico with donations and buy supplies in Mexico to help a few local orphanages in Alex's hometown of Chihuahua. 

Their 5 IVF's have been unsuccessful. Now they are out of embryos to transfer and now have to do another IVF cycle. New breakthroughs have been found and the doctor is suggesting they do a duo-stim which is 2 IVF rounds back to back, which includes 2 rounds of daily shots, upwards of 3 shots a day, and 2 egg retrievals which requires general anesthesia. All done in a 30 day period. After the duo-stim he is suggesting growing the embryos to blastocyst stage to do a biopsy, to determine which embryos are genetically normal. (Only about 40% of the embryos retrieved are mature and only about 15-30% make it to blastocyst.) Pre-genetic Testing (PGT) which is an additional $4,000. The chances of pregnancy with a genetically normal embryo is 60-70% chance of pregnancy, much higher than with an untested embryo.

To keep costs lower they have done these procedures in Mexico which is about 1/3 the price cheaper than in the US. In Utah one cycle of IVF costs $22,000, not including medications or tests, with one transfer. The duo-stim cycles, in Mexico, including medications and 2 transfers is $14,500. 

The funds requested will be to to cover the duo-stim of $14,500. The pre-genetic embryo testing of $4000. Lab work, travel and room & board for 30 days are not included.
