Baby Elizabeth's Medical Fund

Hello my name is Becky Mick. My sister, Laura Zakutansky and her husband Ryan welcomed a beautiful little girl to their family on June 17, 2017. This beautiful, little baby girl is named Elizabeth. Everything seemed to be going as well as it could, being a high risk pregnancy. My sister went in for her NST and had a contraction. She was immediately sent for an ultrasound, where it was discovered that he amniotic fluid was low. My sister’s fluid was checked a few hours later and it was even lower. They landed up taking her for an emergency c-section.

Surgery went well and everybody was doing well. At first Elizabeth seemed to be thriving. She is a beautiful little girl with a full head of hair that her whole family fell instantly in love with.


But a few days after she was born, Elizabeth started having seizures. She was put on medication and all seemed to be well. She was able to go home after a few weeks in the NICU. Within 48 hours of being home, she has a couple of episodes. My sister and brother in law took her to the ER. The doctors are unsure what is causing the seizures, and she was transferred by air, to Riley’s Children's Hospital in Indianapolis.


This transfer is going to be difficult for Laura and Ryan because she is recovering from her unplanned surgery and he has to stay off of work because the hospital is 3 plus hours from home. And it's also keeping them from being home to take care of their other two children’s needs and worries. Luckily, there is enough family and friends in the area to help with the kids, the house and take the kids to see their parents and sister. However, Laura and Ryan have to stay in hotels as to be close to Elizabeth. The doctors are trying to figure out what is causing the seizures, as well as medications that will work for the baby. They have not been given a time frame for how long she will have to be in the hospital.  Everytime they think she might be able to finally go home, she has numerous seizures a day.
