I have set up this go fund me on behalf of Jasmine and Mau. Due to unexpected circumstances, Jasmine and Mau have accumulated many unexpected cost and medical bills from having to travel back and forth to UCLA, being air lifted to UCLA when Jasmine went into labor, having to stay in L.A. after Baby Dean was born fighting for his life, and the costs when he lost his fight. Below is Baby Dean's story written from his dads heart. Please help this grieving family in any way you can. Even if you can't help financially, prayers are greatly appreciated! Help this family heal and ease some of their financial burden! Thank you
Below is the story of what happend to their new born son Dean.
Sitting here trying to put the right words together to explain....well anything at the moment really....and coming to a realization that there are no words that describe how we're feeling or what we're going through....so I guess it's best we start off where it started....Feb 2nd Jack in the Box parking lot I met the girl that would give me the greatest gift I could ever ask for and June 1st we got the news we were going to be parents. Going forward with countless Dr. appointments we found out out precious little angel had some heart complications that couldn't be clear until birth and other than that no other big concerns, so we agreed to give birth at UCLA where they have cardiologist on hand so if needed they're there. Better safe than sorry. So going forward with Dr appointments here in Santa Maria once a week and UCLA once a week for the end of Dec. and all of Jan. having to miss appointments due to the flooding and having to keep track of countless nurses and Drs all over on January 19th about 7am I take Jasmine to the ER letting them know she's expecting and Drs told us to come when she's experiencing cramps more often....gets admitted and now were trying to figured out when the best time/way to go to UCLA....luckily we were able to have her air lifted and flown to UCLA. She gets there safely and after being stuck on 166 for hours we finally get there safe and sound. After going through hours and hours of labor January 21st 2018 Dean Tui Manua Pulemau Alipia was born. Immediately after being born we knew ahead of time there was no time to hold and was rushed off to the NICU. When he was born he was born with Omphalocele, which is an abnormality that occurs before birth as a fetus is forming in its mother's uterus. Some of the abdominal organs protrude through an opening in the abdominal muscles in the area of the umbilical cord, which is not uncommon so no big worries. He goes into surgery same day to fix the omphalocele. When in surgery they found out that one of his intestines, specifically his bile duct, were severed so they had to and were able to repair that. After his surgery the main focus is back on his heart. Drs do their tests and let us know that they have never seen a heart like this before and have no idea what they can do but they're willing to all get together as a team and figure out what they can do for his heart. Drs order an MRI for him so they can get a better picture so they can have a better plan for us. After MRI great news they've come up with a plan to be able to go forward with and are comfortable with. Heart surgery get pushed back so they can get him back to 100% after his stomach surgery. Days go by and he's not getting better....but looking at him you couldn't tell, as he was calmly fighting the whole time. January 25th 2nd stomach surgery. They said he isn't getting better so they want to go in and check on his stomach and make sure there's no leaks and give him a colostomy bag to make it easier on the healing from his first surgery....about an hour or two into surgery, while waiting, the Drs come and give us the bad news. Dr told us when going in to see what was going on with his stomach they found that his whole small intestine was dying off and there's no way for them to repair or fix it and that he wouldn't be able to survive. After emotional phone calls and mix of emotions we build up the strength to go back and be with and finally, after 4 days, get to hold our son! The greatest feeling in the world was being able to hold him. As family finally arrives and gets to say they're goodbyes January 25th at 11:30ish we decide to remove his breathing tube which was the only thing keeping him alive. As we sit there holding him thinking we only have if not minutes if not seconds, according to what Drs. told us, to be with him we cherish every second we get to be with him. About 20 hours of fighting January 26th 2018 Dean Tui Manua Pulemau Alipia took his last breath. We thank everyone for all the love thoughts prayers good vibes and blessings given to us and we are truly greatful to have such strong support from friends and especially through family. Everyone has been nothing but great to us and we want to thank you all from the bottoms of our hearts. We will not be holding a service for him because we feel that we as individuals dont need one nor do we want one. We also ask that you please just give us time....if you haven't heard from us or we haven't responded know it's not cuz we don't care it's only because were still trying to figure things out at the moment and so we ask just please be patient with us as this is a very hard time for both of us but we ARE and will be ok and that we are just trying to be there for each other right now and be strong for one another and figure out how to move forward. Know that we truly love you all and when we are ready to come out and talk to others we will. Thank you all and Dean Tui Manua Pulemau Alipia you will forever be loved and missed.
