Baby Carmelina Berman Medical Fund

Don protégé

Carmelina Marie Berman was born 3/30/2021 and was immediately rushed to Mass General Hospital with an initial diagnosis of Meconium Aspiration Syndrome (MAS). Recently we received an additional diagnosis of Pulmonary Hypertension as a result of MAS. She has been put on an ECMO machine to bypass her heart and lungs, along with the vent, to give her body a chance to heal.

She has remained in the NICU for several days and the road ahead is unclear.  She is considered critical condition.

Her parents Jacob and Jasmine have been in Boston as much as possible with restrictions due to Covid; commuting between their home in New Hampshire and Mass General Hospital to be with Carmelina.

This gofundme is to hopefully help with the mounting medical bills the couple will face as Carmelina's hospital stay continues.

Jacob and Jasmine would like everyone to know that anything not used towards medical bills will be donated to the NICU for their outstanding support and care of Carmelina, or a relevant children's charity.

This fundraiser is organized by Rivka, Jacob's sister. Feel free to reach out to Rivka if needed, as Jacob and Jasmine spend their time with the baby.

"Meconium aspiration syndrome is trouble breathing (respiratory distress) in a newborn who has breathed (aspirated) a dark green, sterile fecal material called meconium into the lungs before or around the time of birth. Even though fetuses do not eat, their intestines contain a sterile substance called meconium."
