Baby Arthur fights for life

Baby Arthur was admitted to the hospital at just five days old. He underwent a slew of diagnostic test with the likely diagnosis of Familial Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH ).

HLH is an auto immune disorder in which there is an overproduction of immune cells which results in an excessive immune response. These cells become overactive, causing too much inflammation. Ordinarily, these cells should destroy infected, damaged cells of the body. In HLH, the immune system begins to damage the patient’s own tissues and organs, including the liver, brain and bone marrow where blood is made.

Since his admission to the hospital he has been diagnosed with HLH, a fatal auto-immune disorder. The only course of treatment is chemotherapy and then a bone marrow transplant.  His beautiful sister had the same disease and is now nine years post bone marrow transplant and doing great.

Arthur is my nephew and I'm fundraising on behalf of my sister and brother in law so they can focus their attention on caring for Arthur. They will be dealing with a difficult time during his treatment and will need all the support that can be offered. My sister, Elise, is an ICU nurse in Phoenix. All funds will go towards the financial needs that Elise and her husband, Nash, will need for them to focus their time and attention on Arthur and his survival. 

The current environment in healthcare makes the matter of Arthur's treatment worse. Working as an ICU nurse, she will be exposed to many illnesses, including Covid-19. Taking care of a bone marrow transplant patient is already an arduous task and then trying to keep baby Arthur safe of all contagious illnesses, when he has no immune system as an ICU nurse would be almost impossible.
