Perineal Urethrostomy Surgery for Blue
My name is Thalia and I’m from Northlake, IL. My cat Blue suffers from urethral obstructions due to Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD), which is a life threatening condition in which he is unable to urinate. If left untreated, urethral obstruction can rapidly lead to kidney failure. In some cases, the urinary bladder will eventually rupture which can lead to shock and death if not treated.
Blue has been suffering from this since January of this year. It’s been constant hospital visits and every time I take him to the veterinary, the vet has to put on a catheter to help him urinate which is also painful for him. He’s was also hospitalized in February for the same reason. I’ve tried everything! Even changing his food to a prescription diet , which is expensive as well.
Since obstructions keep reoccurring, Blue now needs a surgical procedure called a Perineal Urethrostomy (sometimes referred to as PU). A perineal urethrostomy creates a new urinary opening that decreases the length of the urethra and allows urine to bypass this narrowed region. This surgery can decrease the likelihood of recurring obstruction.
Due to what’s going on with COVID-19, I’ve been off of work for almost a month now. I now need help to get this surgery going so my fur baby gets well! I know everyone is also suffering financially but if you can please help me with anything that you can that would be great! I hate seeing him suffer and in pain.

Mi gato Blue sufre de obstrucciones uretrales debido a la enfermedad felina del tracto urinario inferior (FLUTD), que es una afección potencialmente mortal en la que no puede orinar. Si no se trata, la obstrucción uretral puede conducir rápidamente a insuficiencia renal. En algunos casos, la vejiga urinaria eventualmente se romperá, lo que puede provocar un shock y la muerte si no se trata.
Blue ha estado sufriendo de esto desde Enero de este año. Han sido constantes visitas al hospital y cada vez que lo llevo al veterinario, el veterinario tiene que ponerse un catéter para ayudarlo a orinar, lo que también es doloroso para él. También fue hospitalizado en Febrero por la misma razón. ¡Lo he intentado todo! Incluso cambiando su comida a una dieta recetada, que también es costosa.
Debido a que las obstrucciones siguen ocurriendo, Blue ahora necesita un procedimiento quirúrgico llamado uretrostomía perineal (a veces denominada PU). Una uretrostomía perineal crea una nueva abertura urinaria que disminuye la longitud de la uretra y permite que la orina evite esta región estrecha. Esta cirugía puede disminuir la probabilidad de obstrucción recurrente.
Debido a lo que está sucediendo con COVID-19, he estado sin trabajo durante casi un mes. ¡Ahora necesito ayuda para iniciar esta cirugía para que mi bebé se recupere! Sé que todos también están sufriendo financieramente, pero si puedes ayudarme con cualquier cosa que puedas, ¡sería genial! Odio verlo sufrir y con dolor!
