Medical Funds

Hey Friends,
I recently spent 11 days in Touro Infirmary with a diagnosis of Diabetes and the amputation of a portion of my right foot. The wound is expected to heal in 6 to 8 weeks and will not affect my mobility, but the control of my diabetes will continue for the rest of my life. I have no insurance but hope to qualify for Medicaid benefits, but since Gov. Jindal chose not to include Louisiana in the Medicaid expansion under the Affordable Care Act, I am told Medicaid will pay, at most, 75%...maybe, of my hospital stay and future medical expenses. I am back part-time at my day job after missing three weeks. I will return to the stage later this month for Tulane Summer Lyric and hope to keep working, since as a performer I depend on that money from gig to gig to make my budget every month. And though I have the cheapest rent in the French Quarter, I don't have a furnished kitchen so I have lived on take-out and delivery for years (Okay, I see the link). My continued health demands that I monitor my blood sugar, take medications and eat regularly and properly - a whole new scary proposition. In addition to covering my medical bills and expenses I need to get a stove, microwave, and refrigerator. I am humbled to ask if you can treat me to the cost of a couple of beers (since I don't drink much anymore, anyway. I plan to get and stay healthy and keep performing for years to come.
