Help Save Izzy

As some of you may know, the furry head of our family, Izzy, became unwell about 3 months ago. Izzy is normally a super-energetic doggo so when she became super lethargic we knew something was up.

After rushing her into hospital she was eventually given the broad diagnosis of bone marrow disease which has caused her to suffer from severe anaemia.

She has been put on aggressive steroids and immuno-suppressants in the hope that this will fix the problem in her bone marrow (where it's not producing enough red blood cells). In the meantime, while we wait for those to work, everytime her red blood count gets down below 14% she needs a blood transfusion to keep her going.

To date she has had regular blood tests and checkups, two x-rays, an ultra-sound, a bone marrow biopsy and 5 blood transfusions. Along with her medication (one of which is $200 per month), the vet bills have been climbing and we've covered over $9000 so far.

While we've been very reluctant to reach out for help,  we're starting to reach the end of our financial capability. We really want to give her the chance to get better with just a bit more time. Unfortunately, each transfusion costs anywhere between $900 and $1200. This week she received two in 24 hrs when the first one failed, resulting in a $2400 vet bill that day and she is now more susceptible to this happening next time.

We know that Izzy has many friends and fans around the world and we're hoping if people are able to give just a small amount it might help cover the next transfusion/s when she next needs it (likely in the next 3-4 weeks).

Izzy has been a real trooper through all of this, and is still able to enjoy her favourite things in life: ball, stick, ducky, road trips, rivers, lakes, potato chips, the beach and beef jerky. She still loves life, so we don't feel like it's her time yet, or that we should give up on her.

She's the best dog and has been a huge part of my life for the last 10 years. There's not much we do without her. We were lucky enough that she could join us on our recent adventure to the Great Bear Rainforest, despite having to postpone the entire trip for 2 weeks when she needed another transfusion. She absolutely loves getting out and exploring all the forests, lakes, beaches and backroads B.C has to offer and, as long as she's with us or around people, she's a happy dog :)

It's never easy to reach out for help like this, but it has unfortunately got to the point where it's getting difficult to cover these costs on our own with life costs coming along too. We are so grateful for anyone who feels they are willing/able to give a little. If not, sending some good vibes our way would be equally appreciated :)

Side notes:

 - We are SO grateful that people take the time for their animals to be doggie blood donors, without them Izzy simply wouldn't be with us today. People are always suprised when we tell them dogs donate too! Maybe your doggo is eligible. Check it out:
