Supporting Palestinian Refugees in Lebanon

Donation protected
My name is Rami, and I am a proud  descendant of Palestinian refugees who settled in Lebanon after their exile in the Nakba of 1948. This year for my birthday, I’m asking friends and family to contribute to my donation to Beit Atfal Assumoud, to support the grassroots work of the organization in empowering displaced Palestinians across Lebanon’s twelve refugee camps.

Over this past year, Palestinian refugees in Lebanon — already vulnerable in their statelessness — have endured new legal restrictions on their labor, an unprecedented economic recession, and a global pandemic. The Beirut blast on August 4th is sure to compound these challenges, and complicate their tenuous access to everyday needs and psychological support.

The impact of the blast will be felt beyond the streets of the capital: as government officials reappropriate funds towards rebuilding and work to retain their power despite now-international recognition of their corruption and incompetence, refugees from Palestine will fall further and further outside the scope of Lebanon’s political arena. Now more than ever, we must support the work of organizations like Beit Atfal Assumoud to provide psycho-social support, education, and healthcare to women and families in refugee camps.

Beit Atfal Assumoud (“The Home of the Children of the Steadfast”) was established in 1976 and has worked since then, without political or religious affiliation, to provide services to displaced children and families without meaningful access to education, cultural maintenance, and psychological support. They operate several mental health, dental, and pediatric clinics, as well as informal schools, art programs, a women’s embroidery collective, and a youth orchestra. As the Lebanese government strips Palestinian refugees of their rights with increasing speed and indifference, Beit Atfal Assumoud is an invaluable structure for the protection and promotion of Palestinian human rights and culture in diaspora. Your donation will be spread across their many worthy initiatives, as they see fit.

More information about Beit Atfal Assumoud and their work can be found on their website, at https://www.socialcare.org/portal/home/1/.
