Ryan had his first brain tumor, Astrocytoma grade 2,  back in 2008.

He lived with this for 5 years, being told that it was inoperable. Then he was blessed to find Dr Cohen, one of the best neurosurgeons in the country. Ryan underwent surgery July 2, 2013, and had 90% of his “inoperable” tumor removed.

He had a long, difficult, and painful recovery. His wife was able to take some paid time off work and tend to his needs. He loved on his family, played ball, even coached his son’s baseball team for years now. He has lived life to the fullest.

Ryan was doing regular MRI’s every 6 months. Every one had been perfect. His last one was July 23rd of this year. It showed a 4mm growth in his existing tumor from 2008. If it continued to grow at that rate, he could still live a long and happy life. Our family rejoiced with the news.

On Friday, October 5th, 2018, as Ryan lay sleeping, he started seizing. Seizures continued all throughout the weekend. We hoped it was a "simple fix," like a medication change. Sadly, it wasn’t that simple.

Finally, on Sunday night, they took him back to the ER, and they did an MRI. There was something there. Something that was not there on July 23rd’s scan. A completely new tumor, totally and utterly unexpected. It was already 2cm. Clearly, it was a very rapidly growing tumor.

We all knew he was in for another long, hard journey. Hilda, his wife, has been amazing as always. She takes great care of him! With this new tumor, she will need to take another long break from work. Unfortunately, this time, it will be unpaid leave.

Since Ryan’s first seizure. he hasn’t been able to work. Hilda is the sole provider for their family of 6. Since it is unpaid leave, every minute of his surgery/recovery, she will not earn a dime. Bills will be left unpaid.

We can’t have them homeless, or without a way to pay their bills, that will start to stack up very quickly. Ryan and Hilda would give you the shirt off their backs, if you needed it. They help and love others often.

Now they are in need of our help, and we are going to do all we can to meet their needs at this time. We cannot do this in a small circle. This has to be everyone chipping in. Everything counts!

They are loved by so many. I hope that if you don’t already know them, that you can grow to love them through this process. We have a Facebook Page dedicated to updates on him. We would love to have you join us there in this fight as well. Any and all encouragement would be much appreciated. Let’s help them financially, and give them a strong support system to lean on.

#RYANSTRONG always and forever. In our family, no one walks alone.
