Saving Nya's Sight: A 4th of July Injury

On what should have been a wonderful night turned into a nightmare for my 10 year old niece Nya. On July 4th, 2014 she was struck in the face by a medium size rocket that
fell over after being lit. She suffered 2nd degree burns on her legs and the remaining damage was inflicted on her face. We are not sure if my niece will ever be able to see again. At best her current amniotic patch will speed healing and her eye can be fixed with cornea replacement surgery. If this does not happen her eye will need to be removed.
When I asked Nya what present she would like as she awaited her first surgery her response was bug earrings and books. She is not yet fully aware that her vision will never be the same again and that reading, the thing that she loves the most, may no longer come as easy. My family has lived in poverty for many generations and my sister struggles to keep a safe place and healthy life for her children. Despite this poverty Nya is in gifted classes, raises some awesome bunnies, is a contender on the debate team, is an aspiring gymnast, actress, and straight A student. On that following Sunday she was planning on getting baptized along with her little sister. Unfortunately many of those things will need to be put on hold.
All of these funds will be used for Nya's medical expenses. In order to get treatment Nya has to make a 1.5 hour trip south to Nashville, TN. Aside from the rising cost of medical bills themselves transportation and loss of work time are also stacking up.
