ALS Raising Hope For A Cure

Today as I watched my husband, stilled of any movement for several years from ALS, type an email to our lawyer to settle life for the rest of us, I realized that his blinks were coming so much slower, sometimes spaced by several seconds.  His only means of communication using words comes at a cost - each letter of each word a blink of an eye using a computer program designed for those who cannot speak or write.  It took him an hour to write one sentence and then he was so tired, he has slept most of the rest of the day.  This is the reality of ALS, a thief that quietly slips into its victim's life, stealing their ability to breathe and eat and swallow and walk and talk and wipe their own tears and hold their loved ones.  Sometimes I will lay down beside him if he is not in too much pain just to hold him.  I cannot make him better but I can hold him with love as he slips away day by day.  Won't you help us raise money for ALS research so others will not know this pain and heartache?  All donations will be added to the money we raise at a golf tournament and auction on August 9 and sent to Massachusetts General Hospital for ALS research where they are doing cutting edge research.  Please visit our website, www.alsraisinghope.org for details on our work.  If you cannot join us for our tournament and auction, please consider a donation on this site.  Give a gift of hope, a priceless gift to the ALS patients and their families and friends.  Thank you.
