In Memory of Jay Lu - Suicide Awareness Fund

Jay Lu was a sophomore at Fayetteville-Manlius High School who committed suicide on March 25, 2022 at the age of 15. Jay’s friends shared their memories about Jay at the vigil night the following Tuesday. These precious memories tell everyone that Jay had a beautiful and kind soul that has touched so many people’s lives and brought positive impacts to them. Jay liked playing violin and video games. He enjoyed ice cream and cookies. Spicy food and sauces were also a favorite of Jay, especially the lao gan ma chili crisp sauce.
Jay is my son. In memory of him, I am raising Jay Lu’s Fund to help raise awareness of mental health issues among high school students. My hope is to make the raised fund available to the community to support a yearly suicide awareness week event to be held at a local high school. I envision that students apply to use the fund to plan and organize activities (e.g. themed art, essay competitions, social gatherings, discussions, invited lectures, etc.) for that week, with the support from their school teachers and staff members. I have been in talks with Jay’s high school - Fayetteville-Manlius High School - regarding this fund.

My original thought was to have about $500 budget per year for ten years to support the activities of a suicide awareness week at a local high school. So I set the goal $5000. Within half a day, I have reached the goal. I have also received many support and comments from the community that this is needed and desired. So I am continuing to raise the fund with the plan to support the local community more and longer in this very important area with all the raised fund.
