Joe's Journey with Ewings

Donation protected
On April 18, Joe went to the ER after an episode of hematuria. A CAT scan revealed a mass in his left kidney. Between April 18 and June 25 he had 3 ER visits and 33 inpatient hospital days, 9 of those in the ICU. He had a massive Pulmonary Embolism, extensive bleeding from the kidney tumor, scans, x-rays, an IVC filter, and the complete removal of his left kidney, adrenal gland, three lymph nodes, and received 54 abdominal staples. His father passed away suddenly on June 1st, and he was released from the hospital early after his kidney removal surgery so he could attend his funeral.

Joe received his diagnosis of Stage IV Ewings Sarcoma 7 hours before his graduation on June 25. He met his Oncologist Dr Staddon on June 27, and was admitted the hospital on June 30 in horrible pain caused by tumors on his spine and right knee. Between June 30 and today he’s had 8 rounds of Chemotherapy, an anaphylaxis reaction to one of the chemotherapy drugs, 4 ER visits, 2 bouts of neutropenia, 25 inpatient days, multiple blood transfusions, a Staph infection in his port, and his Mom learned how to give fluid and antibiotic infusions at home.

The medications Joe is currently taking are hundreds of dollars a month, and that is expected to rise. Parking fees are $18 - $25, and a $5 bridge toll for each Dr visit. Joe and Zack's Mother was also out on disability for three months after two hand surgeries.  Joe occasionally needs a wheelchair so his Mom had to purchase a Minivan for transport. Zack, who has chronic health issues as well, has needs of his own, and the list goes on and on.

This family has been turned completely upside down in such a short period of time. Joe and Zack's mother won't ask for anything. She speaks of finding a second job to help cover the bills when she is recovered from surgery, but the boys need her support and presence to cope with all that's going on. She's used to "making do" but this is bigger than one person can handle.

We're asking first and foremost to please remember this family in your prayers. Feel free to add them to any prayer list you are involved in. God is with them but they welcome the addition of voices lifted in praise. We would also appreciate any amount of money you are able to provide. Even a dollar makes a difference. And please share this with anyone you feel might be willing to help.
