Wayne's HEART Journey

July 13, 2014 marks the 2 year anniversary of Wayne's Massive Heart attack. We are so eternally greatful for the support from our family and friends (some we have never met). Over the last two years Wayne has been admitted to the hospital for placemenet of pacemaker and defibrillator, fluid overload, and pleural effusions (lungs filled with fluid requiring removal and overnight hospital stay) and the latest being the placement of his PICC line. Some hospital stays longer than others. Pulmonary Doctors watching closely over his Lungs with followup chest xrays, Heart Doctors watching closely over his heart to ensure optimal heart health while coping with severe heart failure. Wayne requires Oxygen Therapy daily (usually in late evenings and during light physical activity such as walking).Wayne is currently taking seven oral heart medications daily, and one lung medication. ONE of the medications is to treat pulmonary hypertension directly related to the damage from the heart attack, this medication itself is over $2000.00 per month. Through his PICC(line inserted into his arm that has a cathetar directly to the heart) line he recieves a medication called Milrinone which increases his Cardiac Output, which in turn makes him fill a little stronger overall. This medication alone is changed out every 72 hours and cost $2000.00 per bag averaging $10,000.00 per month. Wayne has recently been placed on the Heart Transplant list through Emory Healthcare and the Georgia Heart transplant foundation.
