On April 5th 2014, we were planning Angel's going away party, she was headed to Colorado the following Monday. Earlier that week, dad was admitted into CMH because he had been extremely sick. They removed 3 liters of fluid from his lung. After the cat scan, they informed him they seen a mass on his pancreas, and with his symptoms, it was suspicious of pancreatic cancer.

Over the next five weeks, dad endured several tests to no avail.. The blood work, endoscopy, and biopsy, all came back inconclusive. The only thing they could tell us was his cells were A-typical. His Chet cavity started filling up again with the fluid. His breathing was getting short, and the struggle for him to breathe landed him back in the hospital.

On June 2, they transferred him to Christ Hospital. There they started treatment for double pneumonia, and also thought that a catheter in his chest, to drain the fluid daily, would give him a much more comfortable daily life. They put in a port and gave him a dose of chemotherapy, based on his symptoms. On June 13, they released him from Christ.

The next 4 days, our father was extremely sick, again. This time from the chemo. He talked to us both, his wife, and decided to not do chemo because of how he felt. I remember telling him, that if I were in his shoes, I would take two good weeks feeling okay, then two months not being able to get out of bed. Dad, with the attitude he was going to win, and his wife as the general in the war, started doing the alternate medicine.

On Monday June 23, he was feeling well enough to go to the lake and do some fishing. Angel, Waylon, and Brad sat with Dad at the lake from noon til 6. Dad just wasn't done fishing, so I went out and sat with him until the storm chased us away.

Tuesday, he was sick again. All the pain and suffering he was enduring was very evident. He still told us he was doing just fine. He never showed or said how bad he felt to us. I honestly don't know how to describe just how strong our father was.

Saturday, his wife called the squad. He was no longer able to mask the sickness. They sent him home because he still wanted to do the natural medicine. That night, he was obviously getting worse and went back to the hospital early Sunday morning. The choice that the doctor give us was gut wrenching. Our father with the most dignity giving to one human being, told us all to be strong, and to let him go.

Monday, June 30, 2014, Dad lost the battle to pancreatic cancer.
