Rewilding: My native foods journey

Donation protected
Over the past 10 years I've grown to know and love (and eat!) the many abundant forms of plant life this rich earth is home to. As anyone who knows me would quickly attest, I carry this direct relationship with plants, food, the land, its animal life, its hydrology and climate, the changing of the seasons, and the movement of the sun and moon with me everywhere I go, and into every context and conversation and relationship I am a part of in my day to day.

For the last 2 and a half months, I have been traveling through the deserts of the American Southwest by foot, bus, train, light rail, hitch, rideshare, Lyft and rental car, crossing from the Coloradan desert to the Mojave, and the Great Basin to the Sonoran. This journey has already taken me through 5 incredible national parks, 7 state and regional parks, a half dozen national forests, wildernesses and preserves and across the lengths of 4 states. Along the way I have been listening and learning everything I can from these places, their people, plants and animals, and *I want to do more of that*. I want to go to more of the national parks, visit farms and gardens, intentional communities, and people living on their ancestral lands. Maybe I will write a book at the end, maybe I'll open a native plants nursery, maybe I'll just continue to spread awareness of the incredible things to eat and grow that exist on this beautiful planet.

This trek is the realization of my life's longest dream. I want to continue my exploration of earth's abundant wild, native, farmed and ancestral food sources and bring some of that connection and excitement to people everywhere I go and around the world. I believe we need this connection to things that grow, that nourish us and sustain us and bring us together more than at any other time.

I would love to stay on the road indefinitely, but for now I am shooting to cover costs for two years of learning, looking, listening, eating, cooking, writing, creating, volunteering, and travel.

At the moment your donation will go directly toward expenses while I am learning about the plants and wild foods of the Saguaro National Park/Tucson area
