The Mongol Rally: A Charity Road Trip

We're driving across a fifth of the globe from London to Mongolia in a Skoda Fabia for charity.
We might even stop along the way.

WHAT?
Yep. You heard.
We are driving 11,000 miles from London to Ulan Bator in Mongolia for charity.
Ok, maybe a bit of it is because it will be an amazing experience.
Ok, and maybe there's another tiny bit to do with loving the challenge of getting in (and hopefully out) of sticky situations.
But that's what we're doing.
We've bought the car and we've sorted the visas but now we need some help to keep us going.
HOW?
Simple. By car.
But there are rules.
"To use an inappropriate vehicle with a maximum of 1000cc"
We've cheated.
Already.
We've gone for a 1.2 Skoda Fabia.
But we have good reason, unlike most of the other teams we will be donating our car at the end of our trip to the
Lotus Children's Centre who help vulnurable children throughout Mongolia, find out more about what they do here
Not just that but when you donate you'll also be donating to
Cool Earth a charity dedicated to helping protect what is left of the Rainforest. Find out more about them here
Why did we have to cheat to do this?
Because what's the point in handing over a knackered car to a charity that needs to use it?
So our aim is to keep 'Tereza' (yep she's got a name) in beautiful working order all the way to the end. Then give her an oil change, a polish and hand her over.
That's where you come in.
In order to do this we've already contributed our own money to buy the car, sort the visas and arrange the route.
We need help for just two things:
* Fuel costs (so we can keep on truckin')
* Import tax (so 'Tereza' can legally stay when we donate her)
It's the most direct donation you could make to charity because you'll be able to follow us (and your donation) each step of the way.
Plus delivery is included.
That's better than Amazon.
Unless you're an Amazon Prime member.
But Amazon doesn't pay tax so technically it doesn't count.
As an added bonus once you've donated you'll also have the total legal right to injure any chugger that approaches you on the street for an entire year, as long as you yell the legal caveat 'TEREZA!' whilst inflicting the injury.

WHEN?
We're leaving Battersea Power Station in London on Sunday 20th July and if all goes according to plan we'll be in Ulan Bator by 24th August, drinking yaks milk and thinking up reasons to drive all the way back again.
Come and cheer us along.
Anyone is welcome to join us at any time.
You may have to sit on someone's lap though.

...that gives us virtually no time to stop and shout loudly at the locals in English and purchase tacky tourist trinkets at each stop.

Why not?
After joining forces on a previous charity rally through Europe & Africa we discovered that we're good at it and we wanted to do it again.
In 2011 we donated our Mitsubishi 4x4 to a small charity after driving it to the outskirts of Bamako in Mali.
So, like before, we want our journey to have a purpose.
It's a tried & tested formula.
Motivation stays high to complete the route all in one piece (us and the car) when the goal is to donate the thing we're driving!
WHO?
We're a motley crew of 4 reprobates.
2 English and 2 American.
We met 3 years ago on a previous charity rally from Budapest to Bamako so we've got some experience in this kind of thing.
The Americans crashed.
The English stopped to help.
(Practically a microcosm of World War II)
From then on we were convoy buddies and did everything together. From getting stuck in the middle of the Sahara overnight, to fighting for our passports back in Senegal.
We're a good team.
