Atom's Therapy and Medical Expenses
Donation protected
Atom is a smart, creative 8-year-old who loves reading, puppies, and Star Wars. He has recently been diagnosed with Pervasive Developmental Disorder, which means he needs ongoing therapy and social skills support to help him learn to manage spectrum disorder symptoms like communication obstacles, identifying anxiety triggers, and controlling anger. After struggling for so long both at school and home, it's a huge improvement to have this diagnosis, which gives us more specific treatment options on which to focus our efforts. However, there's a long road ahead of us, and as a single parent of three, it's difficult to both be present for a special needs child and also generate enough income to ensure he has access to all available resources. This fundraiser will allow us to enroll Atom in several months of social skills groups for kids on the spectrum, pays for some medical services not completely covered by our insurance, and will offset the cost of some new therapeutic tools we need at home, like a weighted blanket customized to suit his particular size and needs. Crowdsourcing to raise money also affords us some peace of mind in knowing that I can devote more time and attention than my workload usually allows to taking care of family during this challenging transitional time for all of us.
