His name is Martin Lamprecht and he is an above knee amputee that lost his leg to cancer at the age of 12. Growing up in a small town in South Africa, there was little support for amputees, or any disabled or adaptive athletes. Martin endured 24 chemo therapy treatments over a year and a half at just age 12.
Today at age 25, Martin lives in Perth, WA and works as a cardiac sonographer on a Sponsorship Visa. In his spare time, he dedicates most of his time to fitness; CrossFit in particular. He trains 6 days a week at his local Crossfit box, RFX Crossfit and from his experience he is determined to let nothing stand in the way of his love for sport and fitness.
Since becoming an amputee, Martin has broken the above knee amputee record in javelin, and won multiple podium positions in disabled golf. He recently competed in his first CrossFit comp- Battle in the Southwest in Bunbury.
Unfortunately, because Martin is not a citizen in Australia, he does not qualify for any disability support from the government. As he is always looking to improve and compete at the highest level his body allows, he has a dream of competing with able-bodied athletes, and requires a prosthesis that allows him to lift more weight, and being able to run.
Martin's friends comment that "he never complains about his inability to compete or do things that able-bodied people can, he just gets in and tries his best at everything and that just inspires everyone around him."
We have united as his friends, biggest fans and CrossFit community to help raise the money needed for Martin to get a blade leg enbaling him to further his abilities not only in future CrossFit comps but in life in general.
Help us give something back to Martin as he has done for so many of us simply by inspiring us each and every day!
