Bella and Brianna Pape

Donation protected
On November 19, 2017 my spunky, full of life, 9 year old neice, Bella went into acute liver failure. It was discovered very quickly that she needed a liver transplant to save her life. Originally the doctors said she needed a donor within 3 months but as hours went by the urgency for that new liver grew faster. Bella had to be sedated and intubated because the affects of her liver not fuctioning was having a great impact on her brain funtion.

We are beyond grateful that the chance to save Bella's life came within in a couple of days. Late on November 22, we recieved the news that the potential donor was a great match for Bella and that she would have the transplant surgery shortly.  Bella underwent surgery on Thanksgiving Day. Our family had so much to be thankfulful for when we found out the transplant surgery went as planned.

So far Bella is recovering well from her surgery. She is a fighter. In her short little life she has had many health battles. Battles everyday with rare disorder called Kabuki syndrome and an autoimmune disease. Because of this she has already had two open heart surgeries and multiple other surgeries as well and numerous stays in the ICU since infancy.

Prior to discovering that Bella was in liver failure my brother Kelly and sister-in-law Malisa welcomed their brand new baby daughter Brianna into the world on November 16.  The same day they were being discharged from the hospital is the same day Bella was taken to the hospital.

A couple days later, in the early morning of Thanksgiving Day (same day as Bella's transplant surgery) Brianna wasn't eating and began throwing up green bile. She was brought to Children's and was admitted to the NICU. My brother had both his daughter's in ICU on Thanksgiving day.  Through multiple testing the doctors discovered Brianna has Hirschsprung Disease, a rare disease of the intestines. She will require surgery in a couple of months when she is a bit stronger.  In the meantime she will require irrigations of her colon daily if not multiple times a day.

It will be a long road ahead for my two nieces and my brother's family.  To off-set some of the medical bills that they have and will aquired, the loss of work time for my brother, and to hopefully give them a chance to have a nice holiday season, please consider donating and or sharing this page. We truly appreciate your time and thoughtfulness. Thank you!
