Dear friends and family,

I never thought I would have to create a go fund campaign to help my mum, but sadly I am now having to share her story.

On the morning of 15 th February my mum woke up and went to the bathroom as she usually does, and she noticed that there was blood in her urine. Being a postmenopausal woman at the age of 67, this was certainly not normal and came as a big surprise.

She kept calm and picked up the phone in order to call her friend, who is also a trained gynaecologist. She asked for help immediately and went straight to the clinic where they performed a transvaginal echocardiogram. The exam revealed an enlarged endometrium, and a tumour at the end of her uterus. She was referred to another colleague for a more in depth exam, costly exam. The hysteroscopy enabled them to see closer inside and identify the problem. It was at that particular moment when my mum heard the doctor's words "You have cancer". Her children could not be with her when she received the diagnosis of the uterine cancer, only my father, who was accompanying her.

The news was heartbreaking for me, and hearing it made me frightened as it is the only mum I have who, for seven years, I have been unable to see due to the situation in our country. She lives in Venezuela, where the political, economic and social situation is overwhelmed and every day life for a average citizen is increasingly difficult. Public hospitals don't work as they should due to lack of medical supplies, and private clinics are dollarised, which, despite the fact that the currency is still the Bolívar and the population earns their salary in Bolívares, makes it almost impossible to cover the required expenses.

She now begins her journey through cancer and will need an abdominal hysterectomy and further hospitalisation, performed by Dr. Manuel Meneses Guevara at the Leopoldo Aguerrevere clinic in Caracas, Venezuela. The budgets for medical operations in Venezuela fluctuate due to intense inflation suffered in the country and are valid for only 5 business days, leaving us with very little time for collection and exposed to change. Both she and my father have been forced to cancel their insurance policy as they no longer can afford the monthly payments. This unfortunately leaves us with an estimated cost of $ 10,000 for the operation and associated medical fees that we cannot afford at this time.

Aside from the operation, we must pay a carer to help her with the post-operation process as she will be unwell for several days, as well as medication and subsequent check-ups.

I would like to ask everybody that knows and loves Maria Victoria to please donate and help her to recover from this awful illness.

We are with you Mum! We will make it together!

From my heart and that of our family, thank you for your help!
