My name is Deloris Brown and I am the sole caretaker of my three children and my three grandchildren. I am disabled and rely on a wheelchair for all aspects of my mobility. To compound my struggles, I am unable to drive and have been forced to depend upon my elderly, disabled mother to help me get around. Public transportation does not permit us to get everywhere I need to go and thus limited my ability to be an active and present parent due to my disability. Until recently, my mom had a van that could accommodate my motorized wheelchair. That van is now inoperable and far beyond being able to be repaired. My family has found ourselves in a situation where we are in desperate need of support to purchase a van so that we can fully participate in society and so that I can fully participate in the lives of my children and the grandchildren I am raising. We have done extension research for programs that can provide loans or assistance in obtaining a van that can accommodate my mobility limitations. Such programs do not exist in our community. This is why we are humbly seeking assistance in purchasing a van that can meet my mobility needs, which will cost approximately $20,000. In the event someone has an accessible van that they would like to donate, we work closely with community agencies that could verify a donation for tax purposes. We understand that this is a difficult time for so many in our community and wouldn’t be asking if it wasn’t absolutely necessary. The bible says in Matthew 7:7, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. It is with that spirit, belief, and faith that we are asking for your help with this much needed necessity. Thank you in advance for your help and may God truly bless you for any assistance or prayers you may offer my family.
