What if there is a way we could help displaced refugees, empower women and promote the use of sustainable energy all at once?
Welcome to Imece and the Solar Age initiative! That is exactly what is being achieved here!
Imece Inisiyatifi is a grassroots NGO based in Cesme, Turkey working hard every day to help refugees who are trying to take to the boats and make the dangerous trip across to Europe. You can learn more about Imece's origin, current mission, and future plans with this document .
Solar Age Project aims to empower refugee women and make them financially independent, alongside giving them guidance for better integration into the Turkish society. In this program, refugee women are designing and producing solar powered tools dubbed EFE (energy for everyone). These tools seek to help displaced populations through their rough journey by lighting their way and by serving as a battery bank for what has become a survival device, phones. You can learn about this new project, the Solar Age initiative in this document or their website here .
Imece has created very detailed reports on what items are needed and how the funds will be allocated to make this project possible . You can see where your contributions are going with the 2020 Budget documents.

Back in 2015, one of us visited Imece with a few friends and it changed their life. Passion, empathy, dedication, love for humanity - all came together at this one small touristy village in the corner of Turkey. Apart from solar energy, the organization continuously provides food aid to camps around the Izmir area.
As Imece's founder, Ali always says 'Empathy makes us human'.
Our Goal...
... is to help this project gain attention and also fund part of their financial need to keep it going. A major cost of running this project comes from buying equipment (router machine, solar panels, batteries, etc). A little help (quarter of the costs/year) can go a long way for the welfare of the refugees. We hope you can help us to help them. Every dollar from this donation will be directly used to cover the equipment costs of this non-profit organization.
Our Plan...
...is not only to spread the word and provide funds but also to provide our labor in an effort to help the initiative. We will be traveling to Turkey on the 20th of December and staying with Imece to provide a helping hand where needed. We plan to stay until the 5th of January while providing all the support mentioned.

About the Team
Our team, Two Biryanis and one McDonalds, is composed of three friends and young professionals. Subhrajit Chakraborty (Jeet) is from India and living in the USA. Rohini Swaminathan is from India and living in Italy. Jordan Bates is from the USA and living in Germany. Our team name is derived from Jeet and Jordan's love for biryani and Rohi's for McDonalds. The three of us will be traveling from different parts of the world and meeting in Italy where we will then take a flight to Chios, Greece and then take a ferry boat to Cesme ,Turkey.
We want to assist in helping those that have been dealt a bad a hand and in a less fortunate situation with our time off during the holidays. We believe this project is one that provides the most out of the money. Women that are displaced from their homes are provided the chance to learn new skills, earn an income, provided a purpose or a new focus during a chaotic and distressed time for them while also creating tools that promote sustainable energy that will help them survive in their unfortunate situation. We hope that you can help use help them. Thank you!
