Aust Men's Jnr Ice Hockey World Championship
As the Head Coach for the National Under 20 Men's Junior Ice Hockey Team, I can testify to the years of dedication, motivation, and sacrifice it requires in being able to represent your country in ice hockey, of the world's most physically demanding sports.
We currently have a crop of young men on our team who, if adequately nurtured, have the talent to play ice hockey on the world stage at an elite level. Some of the young men I coach have an opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Nathan Walker who in October 2017, made his debut for the Washington Capitals becoming the first Australian to play in the North American National Hockey League.
Sadly it is beyond many of the young men in our National Squad to personally fund the $5,000 required to train together in a pre-championship, one-week training camp in Litomerice, the Czech Republic followed by the tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria.
As at today, several top prospects have reluctantly declined the invitation to participate in the selection process for the World Championships, purely on financial grounds. The loss of so many elite players will be devastating for our national team.
These funds are required urgently and all monies received will be put towards financial relief for the players most in need and to help make this experience a memorable and educational success for Australian Junior Ice Hockey.
