Austin's Battle

Donation protected
Austin Lawther, 27 year old son of Grace (Medeiros) Lawther and Michael Lawther, big brother to Victoria Lawther and my nephew has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma.

He is currently living in Japan where he has been teaching English for about 3 years. He is engaged to a lovely young woman (Risa) who is staying by his side with all her love and support. They were to be married this year, however, sadly this is on hold for now.

Austin will be starting chemotherapy treatments for now which will lead to radiation and stem cell/bone marrow transplant(s) down the road. As of Feb 18th his treatment will also include CNS Prophylaxis. This treatment is aimed to kill cancer cells that may spread to the brain and spinal cord.

He is a strong, young man who regularly exercises, rides his bike to and from work each day and was about to run a marathon.   We have confidence and are hopeful that he will soldier through this “battle” and be healthy and strong once again.  We will post updates on his progress.

We have started this GoFundMe on his behalf as there will soon be substantial costs incurred (medical and personal),  including transportations costs within Japan as well as  to/from Japan/Canada.  We are also looking at bringing him home to Canada, if possible, to continue with his treatments, however, he may not be covered with health insurance for at least 3 months as he has not been a resident of Ontario for a number of years.

All donations are appreciated and we would ask that you please forward this onto anyone who might be interested in helping our cause as well.

Update - February 12th - Austin will begin 1st round of chemotherapy over the next two weeks in the hospital.
