Aunt Sharon's Cancer Recovery

My aunt Sharon is a tough lady.  She's worked as a Nuclear Supervisor at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard for the last 9 years and for 28 years at Newport News Naval Shipyard before that.  Up until relatively recently, she was a healthy and vibrant lady.  Then, a few months ago, after being misdiagnosed and treated for Pneumonia with no improvement, she was diagnosed with Advanced (Stage 4) Non-Small-Cell Adenocarcinoma.  Then, we got even worse news: that it had spread through the plural lining of both lungs into her lymph nodes, thoracic spine, and other bones.

While her treatment expenses have been gigantic, she has benefitted from the insurance she has through the Shipyard.  But we just found out that she has run out of sick leave and will not be able to recieve disability insurance for up to 6 months.  This immediate and unnecessary gap means that she will be recieving no income of any kind during this period, and will thus be unable to pay her bills or mortgage payment as she tries to fight against the cancer.

Our family has rallied and been extremely supportive throughout this whole process, with my mom and their other sisters chipping in wherever they can to provide support and assistance to my aunt during this struggle.

Our main bright spot right now is the positive reaction she has been having to Keytruda, a new cancer-fighting medication that was just cleared by the FDA recently.  We had reached a point despair because the traditional chemotherapy had not been working for her.  But this has given us reason to hope she can beat this thing.

Please help my Aunt Sharon in any way that you can.  She is an awesome person and deserves to fight another day.
