Auburndale Academy Plaza School

My name is Jesse Tyler and I have been teaching for 20 years. I have worked in both Public and Private Schools (including 4 years at All Saints’ Academy as the Science Department Head) and have always wanted to start my own school. I moved to Auburndale in 2006 with this dream and was on my way to starting this when the real estate crash occurred and I decided it was not a good time to fundraise. But now I see the development boom appears to be back on again and I am hoping to add something special to the Auburndale Community...other than a warehouse. I have a vision to create a school that caters to the community in every aspect. This is a school that not only focuses on written curriculum but also grows a hands-on business entrepreneurial spirit of our students and lets them actually run a real business. A sports complex and aquatics center for the students and the community...a perfect place for students and adults to work on healthier exercise habits and eating habits. Finally, there will be retail and restaurants that provide these entrepreneurial jobs for the students but also an enjoyable atmosphere for families when they come to the Academy Plaza for school functions. This will be a place to help get our children off of the computer for hours on end and out playing again.

Imagine this as your day:
You drop your students off at school, and as they exit the car the student waiters bring your morning coffee and bagel that you have pre-ordered from the school's breakfast cafe. The student's go to classes and their elective involves working an hour at an actual store either preparing muffins for the next day's morning breakfast delivery or preparing dinner for your family for them to bring home after swim practice. At lunchtime the students enjoy lunches catered in from one of the local businesses that are already in the school's business model. When lunch is done it is back to class and study hall to finish up the day. As the bell rings at 3:15, you don't need to be there for pick-up yet because their PE classes are after school and involve a swim practice. But you arrive early at 4:30, so you have time to work-out in a student run Gym facility....even better, as you work-out you can see your child at swim practice right out the window of the Gym. At 5:30 when swim practice ends...you meet your child at the Bistro Cafe (another student run business associated with the school) and have a meal ready to take home that your own child has prepared for you as a grab and go during their elective class. You get home and eat together...after that, maybe get some homework done or watch a family TV show. With a day like that your child will want to be in bed around 8:30pm.

This will start out as a school offering grades 6th through 9th grade but we will be adding grades Pre-K3 through 12th during the accreditation process.

The entire process can be seen on this website to help show transparency:
