On December 21st I was blessed with an offer to receive a kidney and pancreas from a deceased donor at Indiana University Hospital, Indianapolis. I accepted the offer and surgery was successfully performed the next day. Fortunately my insurance had covered all the costs to date. However beginning January 1 my deductible ($2500) and out of pocket deductible ($10,000) start over. For the next month or so I have to make 2 trips a week for labs. Because w
e have to be there by 6 am we drive down the night before and stay at a discounted hotel. These travel expenses are not reimbursed by the insurance. While we have already received many generous donations they were not enough to offset future expenses.
