Conquer Cancer - Leslie Hayes!

We recently learned that one of our young, beautiful, strong, independent and amazing friends was recently diagnosed with a very aggressive Renal Cell Carcinoma. It's metastasized into her lungs, left rib cage, pelvis, and tibia. She just had surgery on her tibia last week. She'll be starting her treatment soon with immunotherapy as chemotherapy is not an option for this type of cancer. Additionally, they will be removing one of her kidneys very soon.  

The closest Orthopedic Oncologist Specialist available to treat her is in St. Louis - a four hour drive one way from her home.  Her friends and family have been driving her to St. Louis and back, staying in hotels while she is getting treatment and having surgery.  

She is required to complete many treatments before she can begin taking the medications that will strengthen her bones and immune system. An unexpected dental issue could have very dire consequences. Her upcoming dental costs alone are estimated to be $7000. 

While family and friends have responded in strength and number to help every way we can, we want to ensure she is focused on fighting and healing.  She is facing multiple surgeries and treatments away from home. She will need multiple medications, has very specific diet requirements, and many other things insurance does not begin to cover.

While it's nearly impossible for any of us to comprehend that this is real, and actually happening, she is dealing with this new reality every day.  She has been tackling this challenge with incredible strength and spirit. (I'm pretty sure she was trying to cheer ME up when she told me about the diagnosis!!)
