Heather Meyler is a dear and precious co-worker. Here is her story....
"I am 30 years old and this past April I started having severe GI issues. In May I found out I had metastatic ovarian cancer that had spread to the diaphragm, liver, omentum, peritoneal cavity and appendix. Before my big debunking surgery in June I had 3 paracentesis to drain fluid out of my abdomen. During my surgery they did a hysterectomy, removed my appendix and my omentum. While in the hospital after my surgery June 8th, I felt like I couldn't breathe and found that my right lung was full of fluid so I had a thoracentesis to drain a liter of fluid off my lung. I got to go home from the hospital for one night and ended up back in the ER to have another thoracentesis. A few days later I got a chest tube to drain daily. Two and a half weeks after surgery I started chemo and the fluid dried up so I got the chest tube removed. After 2 months of chemo a CT scan showed that my liver tumor has grown. So Thursday 9/13 I start a new chemo! This tumor better watch out cuz me and my team at Baptist are going to destroy it!
Before I got sick I practiced as a registered dietician and did a lot of long distance running. I also got married last October 1st to the most amazing husband I could ask for. I am an App State alumni so naturally we got married in the Blue Ridge mountains. We love being outside and being active with our two dogs.
