It is overwhelming to think that in the blink of an eye you could lose everything that you have worked so hard to acquire, but that is what happened to my dearest friends and family members, in a tremendous fire on May 11. The four-alarm fire began at 55 Dale St. around 3:14 a.m. Saturday. The fire was burning heavily on the third floor when firefighters arrived, and the blaze quickly spread to the attic of the wood-frame home.
The Dale Street Family Home suffered well over $500,000 worth of damage. The house will be rebuilt and our memories will live forever but many members of my family walked out of this tragedy with nothing but the clothes on their back. Besides housing, my friends and family need clothing, meals, toiletries, everything. The children have lost their most prized possessions and their peace of mind has been shaken. Of course keep saying at least they walked out with their lives and we will be forever grateful for that but this type of devastation will get more difficult for them before it gets anywhere near back to normal. Donations will first be used to provide urgently needed immediate support for the families, to feed and clothe them so that they can go back to school and work, and start to move forward from this devastation. Additional monies will go towards replacing those things that can be replaced and rebuilding this cherished home.
My name is Albie Montgomery, and I am close friends and family members to all households effected by the Dale Street fire. I will personally be responsible for withdrawing funds and writing checks to all families. All monies will be divided evenly between all family (1/4 each).
