Giving back to Steve

Steve is the guy who will always help others before himself. He is a devoted husband and father to a wonderful boy Austin. He volenteers countless hours as the assistant cubmaster for Pack 23 in Burlington where I am fortunate enough to work with him helping our pack of wonderfull kids. Steve is always there to help us, this time he and his family need out help.
Earlier this year while at work Steve felt a large pain in his groin, after going to his doctor they found that it was a reoccurrence of the lymphoma he originally battled 6 years ago. For the past six years it has remained a grade 1 but this reoccurrence is a grade 2 or 3. His doctor was hopeful after the biopsy that he could call this a follicular lymphoma grade 2. He would talk it over with the pathologist and they’d see it was a 2. Not a 3 because only some areas showed 3. The PET scan, which is more accurate, found the lymph node that was biopsied was nothing but a blip compared to the other cancerous lymph nodes it found. The cancer is aggressive and they are conflicted on what type of Fl3 he has. Some cells are large, others aren’t. They are on both sides of his groin, behind his kidney and intestines.
This Friday 3/9 Steve goes in to have his port placed. Starting chemotherapy and immunotherapy the following week. The plan is for 6 rounds of three week cycles. One treatment with a three week heal time for 3 rounds. PET scan to make sure it’s working. Last three rounds if so. New treatment if not. 18-20 weeks. As of now they have decided for Steve to stay out of work until after he starts his treatment to assess. It is so easy to push yourself further than your body can handle which would be detrimental at this point.
Once we are fortunate enough to get it to remission they will treat him with maintenance drugs to keep him there. Once there we wish a cure into existence. At this point there is a chance one could be found. The next reoccurrence- wether two months from now or 10 years- he will need to receive a bone marrow transplant to cure him.
Of course this procedure is going to be a huge expense physically, emotionaly and finacially on his family. The Physical and emotional parts we can do very little to truly help other than being there for them as they need us but the finacial burdon is something we can all pitch in a little to make a little easier on them.
Both Steve and his wonderful wife Brande have given so much to those in the community and beyond and have been great friends over the years, any help would be appreciated.
