A-Squad Scholarship for 3 Scholars

Tax deductible
We need to find three deserving students to receive a SHSAT prep program scholarship!
We are on the hunt for three deserving students to receive a full scholarship to attend our SHSAT Summer Intensive. Our goal is to get these students ready for the SHSAT this fall so they can be in a position to get into one of the specialized high schools. We  have a sterling 80% success rate of getting talented middle schoolers into top high schools. We plan to continue to meet and exceed these success metrics.

The Issue
There are nine Specialized High Schools in New York City that serve the needs of gifted students. For eight of these schools, admission is based solely on the score attained on the Specialized High School Admissions Test (SHSAT).

In recent years, there has been a frightening decline in the number of Black and Latino children that take and pass the exam for NYC’s specialized high schools. See this link for the 2017 admission statistics. Here are some highlights for the 2017 upcoming school year, from last year’s exam[1]:

·    3.8 percent of offers to attend eight specialized high schools went to black students.
·    6.5 percent of offers to attend eight specialized high schools went to Hispanic students.
·    Roughly 3.3% of Blacks that took the exam received an offer, compared with 5% of Latinos…32% of Asians, and 28% of whites.
·    Overall, black and Hispanic students received 10 percent of specialized high school offers, but are 70% of the student body in NYC.

Jabari Beats the Odds
When Jabari first came to us he’d scored 452 on a SHSAT diagnostic - which is too low for any of the 8 specialized high schools. After working diligently through our program for only 4 months, he scored a 564 on the actual exam and successfully placed into Stuyvesant HS — the #1 Specialized high school in NYC. He is one of only 13 black students that was granted admission in 2017!

This opportunity will literally change the trajectory of his life forever. Now, Jabari will have access to college level courses, internships, clubs, an exceptional faculty and all the resources necessary for him to get into a top college.

Your Donation to AdmissionSquad
AdmissionSquad is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit on a mission to increase access to elite schools that will set students of color on the path to success. Your donation is tax deductible! We encourage you to look into seeing whether your corporation will match donations!

Our mission is to give minority students the opportunity to attain a quality education in a city where only 10% of 400 high schools prepare students for college and only 10% of the most elite schools is Black or Latino. Founder Tai Abrams is dedicated to this mission and has built a sustainable nonprofit with world-class success rates.

Your donation will empower the next generation of achievers in two ways: (1) allow us to celebrate our rock stars, (2) give 3 promising students the opportunity to enroll in our intensive SHSAT summer prep course.
