Aspiring Actuary Scientists

Hello, I am Josie. Some of you may know me as the math and science nerd. Here is my story summed up. I am an immigrant from the Philippines and I came to the US in 1998. During my first three years in America,  I had to endure three corrective surgeries on both of my hips. As a result, I missed a lot of schooling and almost fell behind. However, I persevered and continued to be the best student. In the years of 2011 to 2013, I needed three more corrective surgeries during my high school career. This did not stop me. Despite my setbacks, I was in the Top 25 of my graduating class out of 460 students. During college, I double-majored in math and physics at Virginia Commonwealth University. There I discovered my passion for problem-solving, creativity, and communication. Right now, I am on my way to switching my career from teaching to actuary science. Why am I doing this? My experience as a teacher was great, but the companies always catered to the parents. That realization made me see that teaching math is fun, but having to answer to the parents is a nightmare. After discussing my situation with a friend, he recommended that I try actuary science. In actuary science, it is all about data analysis and coding to help companies make effective insurance policies. It is just cut and dry numbers. By doing actuary work, I just gather facts and numbers to say for themselves. This line of work is definitely right up my alley! In order to be hired by a company to be an actuary scientist, I need to pass a series of two exams, where each cost $115.

The reason I am reaching out for your assistance is that I am currently job searching. Also, I have medical bills that I need to attend to before I start with my studies. With this fundraiser, I plan to use the money to buy top-notch study materials and pay for at least one exam (I am planning to take the probability exam first). I am planning to get the Study Guide and Adapt study course. I really want to hit the ground running, so I can pass the exam once. Most people need to take the exam two to three more times because they even reach the minimum score. With your help, all I have to do it take it once. Trust me, all I do is learn all day!

My goal is to take the test by January 2021. I need to have the funds by the middle of November if I am able to acquire the necessary study materials. This truly means a lot to me if you can help not just get my new dream job, but help me build a future for myself and my family. By helping me, you are supporting the dreams of another disabled immigrant to succeed in achieving the American dream!
