This is Ashley Fredrick. She resides in Brunswick, Georgia where she was born and raised. Ashley was diagnosed with type one diabetes at age 8, but this did not stop Ashley from leading a full life.
Ashley was a member of the Brunswick High marching band and on the varsity Lady Pirate’s basketball team. She graduated from Brunswick High in 2002 with a 3.5 GPA. Ashley continued her education at University of West Georgia graduating in 2006 with a B.S. in Criminal Justice.
Two years ago, Ashley’s diabetes took a turn for the worst resulting in full renal failure and vision loss in her left eye. Ashley continued to work two full time jobs despite her declining health, determined to not let her illness keep her down and to retain her health insurance.
Frequent hospitalizations, surgeries on her eye, and the inability to drive forced Ashley to quite one job and decrease her hours to 15 on the other. This also caused her to lose her health insurance.
Funds are being raised to help offset the costs of the transplant, travel expenses, and the cost of the anti-rejection medications she must remain on indefinitely on once she receives her transplant.
