Ashlar & Maui Grown Organics Farm Flood Relief

Spende geschützt
Ashlar has been a large part of the Maui farm and plant community for 10 years. Her home was damaged by a large downed tree and then was swept away in this week's historic Haiku floods as was a large part of the organic gardens that supply her business, Maui Grown Organics with products.  The farm also serves as an animal sanctuary, and is a place where community members have brought injured and orphaned animals of all types and sizes and gotten free full time care and rehabilitation. If you have seen Ashlar at her farmers market booths you know that she also often brings the cuddliest animals with her for others to snuggle and learn about animal care. Prior to running her business Ashlar volunteered as one of the Kumu's for the Maui School Garden Network, growing all the food and starts for school gardens as well as helping to run the garden program for the homeless shelter in Wailuku.  I personally was out on her property yesterday to survey the damage and help her start rebuilding. We are optimistic and also really need the kokua from the community to get her and her business back on her feet quickly.  Mahalo nui loa for any and all kokua!

The Plan:

A local carpenter has offered his time to rebuild her home over the next month if we can come up with the cost of materials, $6000-8000.  We are also seeking to rebuild the gardens and apothecary supplies that were mostly destroyed $2000 and give her a $2000 stipend to replace personal things like her computer since her sole income source has been destroyed.

(Post-flood area where home used to be)

(water starting to flow thru the apothecary supplies)
