Help Asher Beat Cancer!

Donation protected
On Monday, August 22, we received the worst news a parent can hear.

We learned that our 12-month-old son, Asher, has multiple brain tumors; and our lives will never be the same.

We went to Children’s Hospital in Denver where an MRI revealed large and small frontal lobe tumors. A third tumor just above the brainstem is blocking the drainage of brain fluid and causing a buildup of pressure on the brain.

Asher had his first surgery to remove the large frontal lobe tumor and to allow fluid to drain off the brain last week. We are waiting on biopsy results, which will tell us the type of tumor, but have been told it is cancer. At this point, we are praying it is a tumor that responds well to chemo.

The future for us now is months of aggressive chemo for our little baby. We dreamed of him riding a strider bike, now we pray he won’t lose his mobility. He is our perfect, sweet little boy and will continue to be. He doesn’t deserve this—but he is a fighter and we will fight hard for him.

Asher is our first, and only child and is the light of our life. We love being Asher’s parents, and he loves bike rides, swimming, throwing blocks and playing with his dog Bodie (in fact, ‘Dog’ was his first and only word!).  Just two weeks ago we moved from our home of five years in California, to a new community in Glenwood Springs, Colorado to be closer to family. We envisioned this as a community where Asher could grow up safe and strong. We had barely unpacked our boxes, Alison had only been working at her new job for two weeks, and Matt was just starting orientation at his new job when our world imploded.

They say that hospital stays are full of good and bad. We now know a good day is when brain surgery goes as planned and a bad day is when uncontrolled seizures send your baby to the OR.

We are so appreciative of everyone’s love and concern during this time. We truly have wonderful friends and are so grateful to have you in our lives during this difficult time. Thank you so very much.

Many of you have asked if there is something you can do to help. There is.

Asher’s medical care will be costly. In addition to brain surgery, he will be in aggressive chemotherapy for the next six to nine months, and years of therapy following that. We will be unable to work consistently while Asher is receiving treatment. Having both just started new jobs our finances are uncertain. Since our home is 3.5 hours from Denver, we will struggle with travel and lodging while he is undergoing treatment.

The money raised through this GoFundMe will help to pay his bills and make sure that Asher can receive all the care he needs to make a full recovery! Any donation, large or small, will be appreciated!

Thank you so much in advance.
