Asher and The Cuthberson Family

Ben and Laura Cuthberston and their eldest son Christian have experienced more difficult times than any family should have to go through. Ten years ago Ben and Laura’s son and Christian’s younger brother Micah was diagnosed with cancer at just three years old. They faced this together as a family, but unfortunately, tragically, they lost Micah when he was just five years at the start of 2013.

Two and a half years later, in 2015, Ben, Laura and Christian welcomed Asher into their family. In June of this year, when Asher was just six years old he was diagnosed with Lymphoma. This news was devastating for Ben, Laura and Christian, more so because of their lived experience with Micah. Asher had a tumour in his chest the size of a rockmelon, which was wrapped around his heart, major blood vessels and airway. He started intensive chemotherapy immediately.

Five months of intensive treatment have passed and Asher is now seven years old. He has shown more bravery than should be required of any young child and Ben, Laura, Christian and Asher have managed to show incredible resilience.

Asher’s battle will be a long one. The emotional, physical and financial strain is mounting. Taking Asher to numerous appointments, spending days at a time with him in hospital and spending quality time together as a family have significantly impacted Ben and Laura’s ability to work. We have an opportunity to relieve some of their financial strain coming into Christmas. Please, give what you can.
