What is Arvida Book Company ?

Named in honor of 21 Arvida Road McKenzie, Linden, Guyana the shelter & birthplace of the entrepreneurial spirit in our family.

Arvida Book Company is a locally owned and operated independent bookshop that provides Orange County with a community hub and an intimate and eclectic collection of used and new books, gifts and locally made arts & crafts.

We offer a human connection and a community center that is priceless. Our curated events and social schedule bring together all of the best elements of our community via the exchange of ideas and a collective love of knowledge and reading. We connect with our community via an extensive social media presence and with in person events in and around our shop by hosting book clubs, writers workshops, speaking events and how-to workshops and clinics promoting sustainability and unique ideas. Our central location in Old Town Tustin allows us to reach the greater Orange County area but our digital reach allows us to connect with all corners of the globe.

THE PLAN:
Year one presents us with an unusual starting ground. Getting business going at this time will require tenacity and an adaptability that only a start-up is capable of. We will be able to shift our energies wherever they are needed immediately. If indoor business are required to close due to local regulations, we will move outdoors and double down with our digital efforts. We have already secured prime 3000 sf location in Old Town Tustin adjacent to a weekly farmers market with fantastic foot traffic and visibility.  Providing a mixed inventory containing both new and used books allows us to draw in customers looking for bestsellers.

Your generous support will fund these needs for Arvida Book Co:

- Fees related to establishing the business
- Inventory & merchandise

SHOP SMALL!

I'm so grateful for the sheer enthusiasm surrounding filling this gap in the Orange County indie book community, and meeting the desires of people who want to see diverse literature highlighted and prioritized. Thank you for helping make this dream a reality. I can't wait to get books in y'alls hands and see your faces in person!

Risks and Challenges
Risks and Challenges With the rise of online sales and big box stores, experts predicted the demise of the independent bookstore as long ago as the early 2000s, and indeed more than 1,000 bookstores closed their doors during the next decade. But since 2009, due to a revitalized “Shop Local” movement and a range of other factors, the number of independent bookstores opening in the United States is on the rise once again. And yet, while this trajectory is encouraging, significant challenges remain when it comes to opening and maintaining an independent bookstore. Arvida Book Co. is uniquely prepared to take this risk, and succeed in opening and running Arvida Book Co.
