home lost in nana glen bushfire
Donation protected
Local woodworking artist Ian Watson not only lost his home of 30 years and workshops in the Nana Glen bush fires. He also lost his livelihood due to the burning of tonnes of rosewood stumps and roots that he had collected from the Dorrigo plateau over the last 30 years. These stumps created artistic pieces treasured by many and were exhibited in local and interstate galleries, from tables to boxes, bowls and feature sculptures. Despite the best efforts of the RFS, a fire ball razed his property to the ground, also destroying the native garden that he had cultivated over decades.
Ian needs help to rebuild his life on his own land. With no insurance and beyond his financial means, we seek your support to raise $35,000 to build a shed with a concrete slab with basic amenities in which he can live and work.
We would be very grateful for any contributions of labour and plant to help clear away the rubble and begin the rebuilding. He will need key infrastructure such as a water tank, pump and septic tank given his location on Ellem’s Quarry Road, as well as any tools or equipment to continue his woodwork.
Your support would be much appreciated to help the Nana Glen community assist Ian to rebuild on the land where he raised his three children and to return to earning an income.
